2014 Midterm Prediction

Everyone sees the GOP as vanquished from the last election, but they did pretty well just two years ago. With the 2014 election, we’ll again see an electorate older and whiter (mid-term turnouts are smaller) and if guns become an issue like healthcare did in 2010, I think we’ll see the GOP make gains. Midterms in the second term are usually bad for the party in the Whitehouse anyway.

The cold war in the US:  It’s not so new when you remember family’s split over Vietnam, civil rights and other issues long before. I don’t think such passionate disagreement happened within family’s over economic issues so much though. What do you think?

This American Life is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 500 stations to about 1.7 million listeners. It is produced by Chicago Public Media, distributed by Public Radio International, and has won all of the major broadcasting awards. It is also often the most popular podcast in the country, with more than a half million people downloading each week.

Maybe we could start to end this cold war by doing one thing.  It seems to me that way too much time is spent on the opposition’s motives.  In opposing something you should focus on its consequences, and that you don’t think that as a nation we want them.  Maybe your neighbor doesn’t understand those bad consequences.  What you shouldn’t do is actually say he wants bad things for the country.  There’s no way to know why someone believes something, only what they say they want to do.
