Mt. Rainier

There MUST be a God.

From the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Instagram feed:

Photographer Dave Morrow describes the process of among this image from Mount Rainier national park in October, 2012. “I went up to Sunrise Point at Mt. Rainier last weekend with my buddy Keith. After a lame sunset, we waited for the Milky Way to come out. The placement was just perfect and the sky was pitch black! Time to jack up the ISO and shoot some stars…this was one of many from the night.”

More (very good) photos from the Department of the Interior here.

Face Of The Day – The Dish | By Andrew Sullivan – The Daily Beast

Face Of The Day – The Dish | By Andrew Sullivan – The Daily Beast.

Am I the only one who wonders: why does President Obama provide so many bad photos ops of himself? Like this one, he doesn’t seem to be looking at the gift he’s received or with a look of gratitude at the young fellow who handed it to him.

Instead, he looks like he thinks: ‘I am so cool’. I’d say this is not necessarily unusual either. How many times do you see photos of Barack on hostile website, always with his chin out Mussolini style, the claim he’s a fascist I suppose. Some of that is selection of photos by his enemies, but the Air Force one shot was from the Daily Dish, a very Obama friendly site.

I don’t think the President is a jerk at all, and I’d think he smarter to know better than this even if he was a jerk. Then why can’t he manage his face for pictures better? This mystifies me.

From Brad DeLong: Beware being rained on by the cloud

The cloud is great to have data available on different PC and backed up so your not totally dependent on your machine not being lost, or stolen or otherwise destroyed. But keep local copies of everything if you can. Choose services that let you download your data.

There’s talk that Flickr may go like delicious if so, you could lose years of effort.

See this.
