It seems like we have constant waves of statements, outrageous to some followed by demand for apologies. Why???
If we are truly offended by the statement, then why keep them in the public eye by demanding an apology and creating a debate that keeps the original offensive remark on the front pages for a longer time?
Furthermore, what is the point of the demand even if extracts an apology? How often do these acts of contrition seem real, or sincere?
I will suggest they are usually anything but, while giving the offender and their offensive behavior still more exposure.
